The New York Yankees could soon cut ties with their infield veteran after a demotion solicited a "not great" reaction.
The Yankees announced they designated the 36-year-old infielder for assignment on Wednesday afternoon.
The Yankees moved on from DJ LeMahieu Wednesday when the veteran infielder was designated for assignement with about $22 million left on a six-year contract.
The New York Yankees moved Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base and, as a result, DJ LeMahieu to the bench. He is not pleased with the move.
NEW YORK — Both Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone called the move to designate DJ LeMahieu for assignment on Wednesday a “tough” decision. LeMahieu had been in pinstripes since 2019, a well-respected and hard-working figure in the Yankees’ clubhouse.
