The teenager assaulted on the basketball court of the Southdale YMCA in Edina last month has been identified by his mother as 16-year-old Edina High School student Elroi King. The Dec. 20 incident remains under investigation and four teenage suspects have been arrested in connection with the assault, according to the Edina Police Department.

At least one teen has been charged in juvenile court after a planned group attack at a YMCA in Edina left a boy with a traumatic brain injury, according to court documents. Court documents say staff told police a male who appeared to be a member at the YMCA let in a large group of young boys into the gym.

The petition said the victim was playing basketball before a group of teens "jumped him," leaving him with a traumatic brain injury.

A 17- and 16-year-old boy were arrested for felony third-degree riot and felony third-degree assault. A 14-year-old boy was also arrested in connection to the assault.

EPD says officers were called to the YMCA, located at 7355 York Ave., on a report of a large fight on the basketball court. By the time officers arrived at the scene, the suspects had fled, and a 16-year-old victim was found injured. The victim was taken to the hospital and has since been released.
