Fort Collins emergency dispatchers said a woman went to check on a friend who was staying inside the tunnel but found him dead inside his tent with another person.

When officers arrived, they found the two people dead inside a tent that had been set up inside the tunnel. Police believe they had crawled under safety gates to get inside the tunnel.

Around 7:30 a.m., Fort Collins Police Services reported lane closures in the 3400 block of College Avenue. About an hour later, Poudre Fire Authority said they were on scene at a confined space operation in same block, which is the location of Markley Motors. They asked people to avoid the area.

Crews with Fort Collins Police Services and Poudre Fire Authority recovered the bodies on Monday in the 3400 block of South College Avenue in Fort Collins.
