President Joe Biden, former presidents and other dignitaries are gathering at Washington National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., to honor former President Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy Carter's state funeral was held at the National Cathedral on Thursday and the 39th president's final journey to Georgia has begun. President Biden gave a eulogy at the service, highlighting Carter's character and faith.

Jimmy Carter—the 39th president of the United States, who died on Dec. 29 at 100—was laid to rest at the Georgia home he shared with wife Rosalynn Carter.

President Joe Biden was in his first term as senator for Delaware in 1977 at the time Carter was in office. Biden will be at Carter’s funeral Thursday morning to give a eulogy to the late 39th president.

Carter’s long public goodbye began Saturday in the state where the 39th U.S. president was born, lived and died.
