Rafael Devers trimmed the Giants’ deficit with his own no-doubter, a two-run shot in the third that cleared the Marlins’ bullpen and cut the Marlins’ lead to 5-2. By the end of the fourth, San Francisco knocked starter Janson Junk out of the game.

Eric Wagaman doubled in a run and later scored in a two-run second inning that gave Miami the lead for good as the visiting Marlins extended Justin Verlander's season-opening winless streak to 12 games with a 4-2 triumph over the San Francisco Giants in the opener of a three-game series Tuesday night.

The Giants’ frustrations on Wednesday night were twofold. There was, of course, the 8-5 loss. They pushed the game to extras with two runs in the bottom of the ninth only for the Miami Marlins to counter with four runs in the 10th inning against closer Camilo Doval.
