An off-duty Philadelphia police officer shot and killed a man overnight in Northeast Philadelphia, according to a law enforcement source with knowledge of the incident.

A man was shot by a police officer in Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday night, authorities said. The shooting happened at the intersection of Holme Avenue and Willits Road at about 11:30 p.m., according to police. The man was taken to a local hospital, police said. His condition isn't known at this time.

The officer opened fire at the 54-year-old man at an intersection in the Academy Gardens neighborhood, investigators say.
