The FBI is investigating after a U.S. Border Patrol agent and another person were shot and killed Monday afternoon in Coventry, Vermont, just south of the Canadian border, according to federal officials.

FBI Albany said they are investigating "an alleged assault on a federal officer in connection with a fatal shooting involving a U.S. Border Patrol Agent."

A spokesperson with U.S. Customs and Border Protection has confirmed to NBC5 that a Border Patrol agent and another person were killed Monday afternoon in an incident in Vermont. The FBI said a third person was injured and is now in custody.
