Piastri was running up front and leading the field to the restart, but after serving the penalty he came out behind Norris, and had to settle for second.

Oscar Piastri was sensationally denied victory at a wet and wild British Grand Prix after Formula One race stewards controversially penalised the Australian for a dangerous restart that gifted the win to his championship rival Lando Norris.

The lead car can dictate the pace of the restart, but Piastri was pinged by race stewards for "suddenly" braking. He received a 10-second time penalty, which he served during a pitstop. As a result, McLaren teammate Lando Norris took the race lead and went on to claim victory in his home Grand Prix.
