Downtown San Francisco was drier, but it still had a big day. The area recorded 2.53 inches on Tuesday, its highest daily rain total since 1887 when 2.22 inches fell.

In the Bay Area, sun may make the occasional appearance on Wednesday, but then is set to come out for the entire weekend once Thursday’s storm passes. Mehle said sunny, cold temperatures will last until Monday, when clouds are expected to form again ahead of some more possible rain next Tuesday.

An atmospheric river brought additional rain, strong winds, and flooding to the Bay Area Tuesday, with an increasing chance of thunderstorms later in the afternoon.

The Bay Area woke up on Tuesday to the sound of pattering rain from a winter storm that soaked the region overnight, and forecasters say it’s only expected to intensify as a cold front moves through this afternoon.
