DALLAS (AP) — Mike McCarthy is not returning as coach of the Dallas Cowboys, who are going on three decades since their last Super Bowl title, owner Jerry Jones said in a statement Monday. Jones said the organization and McCarthy mutually agreed to part ways. The team’s search for its next coach begins immediately, he says.

The way Jerry Jones is handling Mike McCarthy’s expiring contract has Jason Garrett writing all over it. His refusal to part ways with a coach who has reached their peak with the team is an all too familiar feeling Cowboys fans are groveling in.

Keeping Mike McCarthy as their head coach might be the best strategy for the Dallas Cowboys with their current roster.

It is preposterous that there still isn't a clear solution to the Mike McCarthy saga. While it was reported Friday that the Dallas Cowboys are working toward bringing McCarthy back, Jerry Jones better hope he and McCarthy reach an agreement soon because he is miles behind the interview process relative to other teams with head coach vacancies.
